Farm Holiday in Tuscany

We all were there like every year to attend the event. In this post I will share with you my experience Montaione on the truffle festival.

The fair started on Saturday, October the 24th at Villa Serena, with a funny show and a live concert held in the evening inside the theatre of Montaione.

But the real festival day was Sunday the 25th. At 10 am many stands opened their doors, and from that moment we had the opportunity to taste and buy lots of typical Tuscan products such as Extra Virgin olive oil, wine, mushrooms, cheese, chestnuts, different kind of salami and good truffle.

Along the streets of the old town a nice marketplace of crafts and antiques was set up. Many stalls offered the possibility to hunt for an original bracelet, necklace, tools and furniture from the past, poor art, a nice little picture or other handicraft. Making a good deal and buying something original is a guarantee in Tuscany marketplaces.

The library square “a’Biscondola” was the tasteful restoration point where you could eat sandwiches with “porchetta” (roasted pork) and with salami, cheese and even some German food, in honour of German people living or on holiday in Montaione: beer, hot dogs and hamburgers!
The pub of Montaione, the “Strettotio Pub” organized a fun show with the trio Oltretombola lounge combo. From 18.30 they played some music ranging from the classic one to the Broadway one, swing and masterpieces of Ledzeppelin, Rolling Stones, Beatles etc …

In the afternoon at Villa Serena, there was the truffle dogs’ race. Many skilled dogs demonstrated us their skills in the art of searching for truffles.

Around 4 pm the village band marched through the streets of Montaione playing upbeat music accompanied by beautiful dancing majorettes.
And then, all drinking and eating at the sweets stands which began to churn out homemade cakes, “castagnaccio” (a chestnut cake) and “caldarroste” (roasted chestnuts) accompanied by good wine.
Around 20 pm the fairc was over … but it will be remembered as a beautiful and fun day dedicated to good food!

We recall, for those who are interested, that during the whole month of November, the last 3 weekends of November, there will be another great truffle exhibition in San Miniato. You can take the opportunity to spend a nice holiday in a farm and attend this event…you cannot miss it.
